It's been over a month since my last post, which is a testament to my busyness. I've started training for the Humboldt Redwoods Half Marathon on October 19, 2008. I replaced my 5-year-old bargain bin running shoes with a pair of Nike's with the built-in iPod pedometer, which I'm really enjoying. As you can see by the new widget in the left column of my blog, I can now track my progress through their website to make sure I stay on track.
In other news, I took the Certified Wine Professional Level I exam last week. The written section was simple, but the blind tasting was a bit of a struggle. I don't get the results for a few weeks, so I don't know if I passed yet. Hopefully...
Last Saturday, I took a bunch of my classmates sailing on the San Francisco Bay. We chartered a Beneteau 38 (aptly named Vin Santo). I think we all got a bit more than we bargained for, with 20+ knot winds and a good bit of fog. The wind chill had to be less than 50 F. We went out double-reefed, and the boat was still overpowered. The degree of heel also came as a surprise to all the newbies. Luckily it wasn't too choppy, so we didn't get thrown around that much. While I was too busy steering the boat to take any pictures, Mike managed to snap some good ones.
After sailing we ate at A16 in San Francisco. The overall dining experience was good, and they have an amazing wine list featuring little known Southern Italian varietals; however, the food was hit or miss. The appetizers and pizzas were great, but the entrees were a little underwhelming given the price (and all the hype).
