A stand mixer of my very own

After several years of wavering about whether or not I should buy a stand mixer, my mom put an end to it and bought me a KitchenAid Artisan Mixer, under the guise of a gift for Groundhog's Day. It arrived a few days ago, and I've already started to put it to use.

This one's for you, Taylor. I'm reliving the glory days of Baking and Pastry! Yesterday I made a batch of soft rolls for dinner, including all the ridiculous shapes we made in B&P, and today I'm making eclairs filled with pastry cream. You can rest assured they'll be overfilled (or should I say properly filled?). Next week I'm moving on to jelly doughnuts. It will be magnificent.

Now I'm anxious to buy some attachments to make full use of the mixer. My list includes the pasta roller, meat grinder, vegetable juicer, and possibly the ice cream maker. Anyone have any advice/warnings about the quality of any of these attachments?

I used the pasta maker and the meat grinder at Fahrenheit, they are great, worth the money for sure. Skip the cutter for the pasta maker, a knive works fine, and evan though most of the unit is plastic, i kept the grinder unit in the freezer. have fun.

Thanks for all the info. It may be a while before I take the plunge...at least until I make some money!

I have the ice cream maker and really like it. I've done ice cream, fro-yo and gelato. If you've got room in the freezer, keep the bowl parked in there in case inspiration strikes, otherwise you have to wait overnight for it to be ready.
